Ten years after Pope Francis released “Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home,” the message of the encyclical has taken root in the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Congratulations to our deacons celebrating jubilees
In this section, we recognize the deacons serving in the Archdiocese of Chicago celebrating jubilees this year. Deacons assist the bishop and priests in ministries of the word, liturgy and charity. Deacons also identify the needs of the poor and underserved, and shepherd the church’s resources to meet those needs. We thank them for their service and congratulate them on their anniversaries.
St. Anthony Parish celebrates patron, jubilee year
Under large mosaics depicting the miracles of their patron saint, St. Anthony of Padua parishioners gathered to celebrate their patron’s feast on June 8, Pentecost, with a bilingual Mass and fiesta in the parking lot.

Thousands of Catholics from across the Chicago area and beyond gathered June 14 at Rate Field, home of the Chicago White Sox, to celebrate Pope Leo XIV, the Chicago-born, Dolton-raised Augustinian and White Sox fan who was elected the 266th Successor of Peter on May 8.

Freedom. It is one of the most precious and lifegiving qualities we can possess. When we have it, we can feel safe, creative and generous. When we lose it, we can feel endangered, guarded and self-focused.

On the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, when we reflect on the awesome mystery that the bread and the wine at our liturgies truly become the real presence of Jesus’ body and blood, we should also be attentive to the extraordinary confidence he places in our own ability to work wonders.
